Finals Week: sleep deprivation and scholastic overload

What I am doing:

What I wish I was doing:

To be fair I did surf this morning but it was cold, stormy and not too clean.  I am so incredibly ready for warm, bikini surf.

The past couple days of life and food

I have been quite busy the past couple days and will be the next few between work, finals, and FoodWhat?! and getting reading for EL SALVADOR (!!) so here are some images from my days:

Rusty cat; a cold morning before a day of double surf; my delicious lunch (quesadilla, guac, veggies, beans, salad- all in one beautiful bowl)

"Food, What?!"

I had my first day at my new internship today.  For lack of a better word it was AWESOME. I took photos all day, learned about composting techniques, and saw the creation of some pretty fantastic pumpkin oat muffins.  The program seeks to empower youth in the Santa Cruz and Watsonville communities by providing food knowledge, teaching gardening and cooking techniques, giving job training, and generally enriching kid's lives by providing a beautiful place to learn and grow.
I have yet to post my first blogging on their site: http://www.foodwhat.org/ .  I am thinking I will have something up by tomorrow afternoon.  Check it out and learn more about the program if you are interested.

Here is a preview ; )

...and Good Afternoon

brown rice, onions, garlic, kale, red bell, eggs, almonds, guac, chai (w/ hemp milk & stevia).

Good Morning

Sunset swell

It has been flat for quite a while now...I haven't surfed in a week! I just uploaded some images onto my computer and realized that I had a bunch left over from the last solid swell that came through town.  I reveled in the pink and orange sunset surf and will be looking for some more of the same when we head to El Salvador in two weeks!!

Congratulations Mr. Levy

I've just learned that local surf icon, Bixby Dicks frontman, and creator of my beautiful macrame bracelet, Mark Levy is going to be inducted into the Hermosa Beach Surfer's Walk of Fame. Word has it that the induction ceremony will be held on April 7th at 11 am at the base of the Hermosa Pier.

Mark was featured in a Surfer's Journal article a couple months ago written by Matt Warsaw (author of the Encyclopedia of Surfing, A History of Surfing, etc.) under the lionizing title "The Best I Ever Saw".

So again, congratulations Mark!

Book Making

I have recently started a new internship that involves taking pictures, blogging, gardening and food...pretty epic I know.  I will post about it in the near future once I actually have posted something for them (probably Friday) but in the mean time here are the 61 journals my fellow intern Hannah and I made for the program.  It involved a lot of slicing, hole punching and tying but they turned out pretty good.

SO IT GOES

Felicity Palmateer is rad.  The Western Australia native is currently competing worldwide on the professional women's circuit.  I first noticed her when I was watching some women's Billabong (her sponsor) videos.  Not only did I take note of the fact that she rips but she also has some pretty awesome designs on her boards.  Upon further investigation I learned that she paints all of her own boards and does some other art on the side.  She is now the star of a new short film entitled "So It Goes" that shows off her surfing, her creativity and her homeland.  Apart from a title that pays homage to Kurt Vonnegut's famous quote, the film is full of beautiful imagery, idyllic waves, and solid surfing.

** All photos obtained via Felicity's website.

Here is the movie. Enjoy!:
